On February 3-4 the capital city exhibition complex “ACCO International” hosted Kyiv Battle 2018 – the second international crossfit tournament that brought together 120 of the strongest athletes from Ukraine and neighboring countries. During these two days there was a battle between 60 professional athletes and 60 amateurs who were competing for the prize fund of 120 thousand UAH.
The first place from among professional athletes won last year’s winners of the Kyiv Battle 2017 tournament Volodymyr Bytiutskyi and Mariana Fedorenko. For the second time the athletes demonstrated the high level of training and skills and won the main tournament prize – 30 thousand UAH and a one-year contract with the Reebok company.
To test the physical fitness of the athletes, there were 5 complexes for the professional athletes and 4 complexes for the amateurs, the complexes included high-intensity functional exercises. The complexes included thrusters, handstand push-ups, rope climbing, jerking, pull-ups, handstand walk, muscle-up etc. Such diversity was intended to show the readiness of athletes to perform exercises of high level of complexity. The first competition day was intense and very emotional and became the last day for some athletes, according to the rules, only 20 athletes from each category were admitted to the second day of competition. After the first day, the leaders were Volodymyr Bitiutskyi and Mariana Fedorenko in the category “Professionals” and Yevhen Kantur and Oleksandra Beznosiuk in the category “Amateurs”. During the second day of competition, for a while there was an intrigue in the men’s division among professionals, which caused a lot of uneasiness to the guys and their fans. This year the main competitors of Volodymyr were Serhii Krys and Volodymyr Tysaniuk. The situation was different for women, Mariana Fedorenko finished the first almost in every complex and won with a huge advantage of 36 points.
«It was not easy, but I gave my best. I got what I was striving for, I am satisfied with the result, we keep on going! It was very nice to be in this environment, this is a very cool level of organization, the number of strong athletes is constantly increasing, which doesn’t let you lay back and relax, so in general, it was a grand experience! » – shares Mariana Fedorenko.
This year almost 400 athletes took part in the qualification round. There were representatives from Ukraine, Poland, Moldova, Turkey, Lithuania and other countries. For the second year in a row the Head Judge of the competition was World’s Champion, five-time Champion of Ukraine in powerlifting and a certified CrossFit Judge Anton Halahuz.
